THIS IS A POPULATED PCB AND PANEL SET - ALL SMD (SURFACE MOUNT) PARTS ARE ALREADY INSTALLED - YOU WILL NEED TO BUY OTHER ITEMS TO COMPLETE THE BUILD, LIKE POTS, JACKS AND KNOBS - REQUIRED ADDITIONAL ITEMS (CLICK HERE) - KNOBS ARE NOT ON THE BOMS - YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPLY THEM
SHIKENSA is a 5-stage CV and trigger sequencer with some nifty features. It can run with an internal clock at a rate set with the tempo potentiometer or be synchronized to an external clock signal. With internal clock, you can create a swing effect by turning the CLK CV attenuator clockwise. Here you can also change the tempo of Shikensa with external signals by connecting any CV signal to the CLK CV input. A sequence can also be reset or held by CV.
It is possible to change the length of the sequence from a maximum of 5 steps to 4 or 3 steps using a toggle switch. There are five sliding potentiometers that allow fine changes in CV values per step. There is a trimmer on the back of the PCB to adjust the maximum voltage from +5V to +10V.
SHIKENSA has a total of four outputs. OUT is the standard CV output that you would connect to a 1V/OCT input of an oscillator. If you apply a control voltage to the ADD input, you can transpose the output of OUT. IN/CK outputs either an inverted signal of OUT or the internal clock (this can be changed by swapping two resistors). LVL OUT carries the same signal as OUT, but its level can be changed via CV. An attenuator allows control over the amount of change. When nothing is connected to the LVL CV input and the attenuator is turned up, an internal pitch envelope is added to LVL OUT, which is great for creating percussive sound sequences. These three outputs can be used simultaneously to change not only the pitch of an oscillator, but also other parameters such as waveshapers, filters or effects according to the sequence. TRIG provides a trigger signal that can be activated or deactivated per step. Five latching push-buttons on the bottom allow you to create rhythmic patterns. An LED indicates whether a trigger signal is being output.
